Taking place at the start of the Christmas period, Oxford's Christmas Light Festival is a city-wide celebration, offering late night opening of museums, galleries and cultural venues around the city.
In 2015, the three-day festival included a magical lantern parade, installations throughout the city and a Festive Market with stunning products from hand-picked stalls selling stocking fillers, local food and drink and traditional mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.
One of the most exciting challenges of this project is working with a dozen schools and community groups on the annual lantern parade. From running lantern workshops in schools to event managing the lantern parade itself, over 300 participants were involved in the project and on the night more than 35,000 people lined the historic (and narrow!) streets.
Closing such a busy city centre 3 days required a robust traffic management plan. We worked closely with agencies of the safety advisory group to ensure the minimum disruption to the city while ensuring the safety of all attending the event.
